The Journey

It all began at The Speakeasy, a blues bar in Cambridge, MA, not far from Harvard Square. While working there part time,Cheryl was treated to seeing the best performers, like The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Koko Taylor and John Lee Hooker, to name a few. Magic Dick and Frank Zappa were known to come by to enjoy the amazing talent featured in this unique venue. It was a fast paced, diverse, fun gig, a great introduction to the hospitality business. What was not to love?

Having been hooked, Cheryl continued her journey, opening a restaurant for Hotels of Distinction, working at the iconic Top of the Hub and continuing on to be part of the opening crews For Hyatt Hotels at three different locations, where she honed her craft. After several years, Cheryl returned home to Boston to open the luxury Four Seasons Hotel. She loved every minute of it, but especially catering and the opportunity to create lasting memories for families, friends and businesses.

Fast forward to Montclair in 2004, when she and her family opened a restaurant on Church Street, where she was finally able to start focusing on catering along with the a la carte business. Not only did she create a catering enterprise but was able to develop it to do off premise work, which became the model for what Church Street Catering & Events is today.

Cheryl works with each client to understand the vision they have so that she can facilitate the process for them. She creates a “one-stop shopping” experience, much as clients experience in hotels and “all-in-one” establishments but with flexibility and uniqueness that they are striving to find. Each menu is designed for the needs and tastes of the individual, paying attention to the cuisine that they feel is important when hosting their guests.

As the business has continued to evolve, her son, Ben, a rising start in the local culinary scene, who astutely learned the craft from the time he was a little boy, has become an integral part of the operation. Together, they cook up the finest freshest and most inventive menus that will please even the most discerning palates.

Today, she, her son and her amazing staff create unique events featuring delicious food that make clients return to again and again.
